Vose Galleries is established.

Operated by Seth Vose, it is located in the Studio Building at 104 Tremont Street. Originally an art supply store run by artist Ransom Hicks in Providence, Rhode Island, it was purchased by Seth’s father, Joseph Vose in 1841. The Boston gallery moves to 559 Boylston Street in the 1920s, then to its current location, the Vose family’s former townhouse, at 238 Newbury Street in 1962.
